Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has labeled the Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit as a historic event in the journey of Assam's industrial sector. He asserted that with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's endorsement, the summit symbolizes a new dawn of development and opportunities for the region. Sarma expressed gratitude towards the Prime Minister for his support, underscoring the significant impact on Assam's rich industrial heritage, exemplified by 200 years of Assam Tea.
Highlighting the state's industrial legacy, Sarma recounted that Assam's industrialization began with the discovery of tea in 1823, followed by a pioneering role in India's oil industry and early coal discoveries in 1847. These developments laid the groundwork for Assam's enduring economic growth. From being an economic leader at the time of India's independence due to its robust tea, oil, and natural resource sectors, Assam maintained a per capita income surpassing the national average by four percent.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, Assam has embarked on a transformation journey, as evidenced by over 2,324 km of National Highways constructed since 2014. Additionally, advancements in rail infrastructure and the state becoming a catalyst in India's aviation industry further highlight its progress. With the state's GDP surging from $29 billion in 2013-14 to $68.7 billion in 2023-24, Assam is a magnet for industrialists, offering boundless opportunities for stakeholders.
At the summit, prominent industrialists such as Tata Sons' Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Reliance's Mukesh Ambani, and Adani Group's Gautam Adani articulated their visions for collaboration in Assam. Notably, Tata Electronics is developing a significant ATMP facility at Jagiroad, with plans for future investments in green energy and mobile chip manufacturing in the state within five years.
Furthermore, Vedanta Group's Anil Agarwal pledged an investment of Rs 50000 crore, while JSW Group's Sajjan Jindal committed to renewable energy and thermal power projects. The summit aims to catalyze economic development in Assam by providing a prolific platform for business ventures and investments, setting the stage for a bright future in Assam's growing industrial landscape.
