Mark Chapman's electrifying century and Nathan Smith's four-wicket spell inspired New Zealand to a commanding win over Pakistan in the opening ODI of their series in Napier. Chapman's 132 off 111 balls earned him Player of the Match, as New Zealand set a challenging target for Pakistan.
Despite a resilient start by Pakistani openers Abdullah Shafique and Usman Khan, who crafted an 83-run partnership, the visitors faltered, finishing at 271. Captain Babar Azam contributed 78 runs, while Salman Agha added 58, but they fell short of the 344-run target set by New Zealand.
Smith led the Kiwi bowling attack with four wickets in his 8.1-over spell, dismantling Pakistan's batting line-up. Jacob Duffy supported with two wickets, while William O'Rourke, Michael Bracewell, and Muhammad Abbas chipped in with one each.
