Delhi Achieves Record Air Quality Improvement in 2024
Delhi's air quality saw a significant enhancement in 2024, marking the highest number of 'Good to Moderate' days since 2018. Despite challenging weather conditions, effective measures led to improvements, with farm fire reductions and policy initiatives contributing significantly. In 2024, Delhi celebrated a marked improvement in its air quality, recording an unprecedented 209 days in the 'Good to Moderate' category, as revealed by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM). This achievement, marking the highest count since 2018, comes despite significant meteorological challenges throughout the year.
CAQM's report highlighted that while January 2024 experienced an anomalously high Air Quality Index (AQI) due to still wind conditions, the months of February, March, and December saw the cleanest air since 2018. These developments underscore the effective collaboration of stakeholders in addressing air pollution challenges.
The data also showed a notable decline in farm fires across Punjab, Haryana, and NCR, contributing to the air quality improvement. The implementation of robust measures and targeted actions across Delhi-NCR is credited with these advancements, as authorities aim for continued progress in tackling air pollution.
