In a dramatic turn of events at the poll-bound Deoli Uniara assembly constituency, Rajasthan Police on Thursday detained Independent candidate Naresh Meena. This comes after Meena allegedly assaulted Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Amit Chaudhary at a polling station in Samravata village, amid mounting tensions and increased security presence.
The arrest followed the deployment of senior police officials and heavy security forces to apprehend Meena. Tonk SP Vikas Sangwan described the police's approach as strategic and intended to encourage Meena's peaceful surrender to uphold the law. Meanwhile, Ajmer Range Inspector General, Om Prakash, confirmed that 60 arrests had been made and four cases registered following the altercation, which led to minor injuries among police personnel and villagers during incidents of stone pelting and vehicle arson.
Asserting that no perpetrators would be spared, Prakash detailed the charges against Meena, including obstruction of government operations and vandalism. In response, Naresh Meena accused Congress MP Harish Chandra Meena of orchestrating the incident. He alleged electoral coercion in his constituency, explaining his confrontation with the SDM and subsequent escalation at the polling venue.
