The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) conducted a massive operation resulting in the arrest of 48 cybercriminals across the country. These arrests were made in connection with over 2,194 cases, including 508 within the state, leading to financial losses of Rs 8.16 crore.
According to TGCSB Director Shikha Goel, the crackdown, organized in collaboration with local police, targeted criminals involved in schemes such as business investment frauds, job scams, digital arrests, and courier scams. The operation unearthed a network where 'mule' account holders and agents facilitated these crimes by supplying accounts for illicit use.
Victims were often misled by promises of commission-based incentives, which enticed them to permit the misuse of their accounts. The suspects, drawn from varied professions like cab driving, small businesses, and IT, had their electronics and bank documents seized as part of the ongoing investigation.
