In the Sabarkantha district of Gujarat, an important initiative began as Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the procurement of groundnuts at support prices under the Price Support Scheme. National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation (NAFED), in coordination with Gujarat's agriculture department, is leading the effort aimed at financially uplifting local farmers.
Agriculture Minister Raghavji Patel and Minister Bachubhai Khabad were present during the ceremony where the Chief Minister handed out cheques to farmers. The procurement process extends beyond groundnuts, also encompassing soybeans, urad dal, and mung beans at over 160 designated purchase centres throughout the state.
The region's agricultural setup has sparked the establishment of seven centres for groundnut, six for soybean, eight for rice, and two for mung dal procurements. The Price Support Scheme, managed by the Government of India, seeks to stabilize prices for key crops including bajra, jowar, and cotton. The scheme is operational until market prices align with or exceed declared minimum support prices.
