On the occasion of National Unity Day, Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed the participants of the 'Unity Run' event in Delhi, emphasizing the crucial role of unity and safeguarding the legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Shah expressed dismay over the past neglect of Patel by previous Congress-led governments, lamenting the delay in awarding Patel the Bharat Ratna honor. Highlighting the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shah credited the installation of the world's tallest statue in Kevadia, Gujarat, with reviving Sardar Patel's memory.

Shah conveyed that the Unity Run represents a commitment to India's national unity and the vision of a 'Viksit Bharat' or Developed India. He disclosed that Prime Minister Modi initiated the Unity Run to promote national unity and decided to hold this year's event on Dhanteras, October 29, due to the concurrence with the Diwali festival, instead of the usual October 31 date. The Run for Unity marks 'Rashtriya Ekta Diwas' or National Unity Day, honoring Patel's legacy. October 31, 2015, marked the first Unity Run in tribute to Sardar Patel's contributions to Indian unity.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel participated in the event, flagging off a marathon in Ahmedabad. He reflected on Patel's legacy as India's first Home Minister and the architect of its political integration. Celebrations in Ahmedabad included a gathering at Sabarmati Riverfront, commemorating Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's birth anniversary. CM Patel stressed the role of the 'Run for Unity' as a symbol of integrity and unity, aligning with Prime Minister Modi's vision of 'Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat' or 'One India, Best India.' The Unity Run has evolved into a collective pledge for a united and secure India.
