On Thursday, the AAP Government revealed its decision to employ former bus marshals as civil defence volunteers for a temporary period of four months to tackle the escalating pollution crisis in Delhi. The announcement, made by Delhi Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj during a press conference, marks a significant development following consistent efforts by the marshals and AAP leaders.
Bhardwaj stated that the central government, after persistent advocacy, has conceded to allow these bus marshals to be redeployed and compensated by the government for their efforts. The volunteers are set to assist in enforcing measures against pollution, including stopping the open burning of waste and regulating construction activities.
In a gesture of assurance and support, Bhardwaj expressed the government's commitment to reinstating these bus marshals. He congratulated them for their resilience in the face of repeated arrests and police detentions during their protests for reinstatement, which began following their termination in October of last year.
