Central Government Boosts Rural Development in Tamil Nadu
Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan reviewed rural development initiatives in Tamil Nadu, highlighting significant investment in infrastructure and housing. Over 9,000 roads and a substantial number of houses have been built, with continued support promised for ongoing projects. Women's empowerment through self-help groups also remains a priority.

Union Minister for Rural Development, Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, assessed the progress of rural development projects by the Central Government in Tamil Nadu during a review session held in Chennai, as per an official statement from the Ministry of Rural Development. Chouhan emphasized the state's significance, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commitment to its development, with the assurance of comprehensive support from the Central Government.
In the review meeting, Minister Chouhan disclosed that under the MGNREGA scheme, Tamil Nadu received wages amounting to Rs. 12,603 crores for laborers in the fiscal year 2023-24. Additionally, 7,220 crore rupees have been allocated this year to ensure employment for all. The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana has resulted in the completion of 9,681 roads and 150 bridges in Tamil Nadu, with ongoing work on 671 roads expected to finish promptly.
Regarding housing, Chouhan stated that the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana aims to construct 8,15,771 houses in Tamil Nadu, with 7,47,542 approved so far. The government plans to expedite the completion of remaining homes. He highlighted another key initiative, the Women Empowerment Scheme, which supports women's livelihood through self-help groups. The campaign aims to establish three crore Lakhpati Didis nationwide, and Tamil Nadu's efforts are contributing significantly.
