The Indian government is preparing to solicit bids for massive 10-gigawatt battery energy storage projects, an official disclosed on Friday. This initiative is expected to solidify India's standing in the burgeoning energy storage sector.
Vijay Mittal, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Heavy Industries, informed that the ministry will soon release a 10-gigawatt request for proposal. This RFP targets entities working on grid-scale energy storage systems, aiming to develop indigenous capabilities compatible with advanced chemistry cells.
The strategy aligns with India's electric vehicle goals, focusing on reducing imports of ICE vehicles and fulfilling environmental commitments. Over 40 gigawatt-hours have been allocated to OEMs under the ACC-PLI scheme, fostering local manufacturing. Dialogue among over 300 industry leaders at the 'Summit on Lithium-Ion Batteries' engages on themes like innovation, supply chain, and recycling.
