VCK Pushes for National Prohibition Policy at Key Conference

Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), a pivotal ally of the ruling DMK, convened a conference on Wednesday to advocate against liquor and other intoxicating substances.
The gathering passed a resolution urging the Centre to declare a national prohibition policy and to enact a law aligning with Article 47 of the Directive Principles of the Constitution. VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan presented the resolutions, which were supported by DMK leaders RS Bharathi and TKS Elangovan, as well as representatives from allied parties, including Congress.
The conference also called for the Tamil Nadu government to pass a resolution in the state assembly supporting the national policy. They urged the Centre to provide special funds and additional tax devolution for states that implement the ban. The TN government was also encouraged to adopt total prohibition, initiate an awareness campaign, and involve women's self-help groups in the effort.
