The NIA conducted extensive searches in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, targeting several premises as part of an investigation into an anti-election campaign led by Hizb-ut-Tahrir, a pan-Islamist organization. The crackdown is aimed at uncovering efforts to establish Islamic rule in India.
According to the NIA, raids were executed at 11 locations across Chennai, Tambaram, and Kanyakumari districts. Officials confiscated digital devices, unaccounted cash, and propaganda material linked to Hizb-ut-Tahrir.
The agency highlighted that the anti-election campaign was propagated via social media, deeming electoral participation as un-Islamic. Key conspirator Hameed Hussain, along with five others, orchestrated secret meetings to promote the group's anti-India ideology. Investigations continue with the analysis of seized materials to unveil deeper links.
