On Tuesday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami honored Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on the eve of their birth anniversaries. In his message for Gandhi Jayanti, Dhami emphasized Gandhiji's crucial role in the country's freedom struggle against British colonial rule.

'Mahatma Gandhi fought for India's independence and equality,' CM Dhami remarked, stressing the importance of education and social reform. He noted that Gandhi Jayanti offers an opportunity to draw inspiration from Gandhi's philosophy of life.

Alongside, the Uttarakhand CM paid respect to Lal Bahadur Shastri, reflecting on his impactful slogan 'Jai Jawan Jai Kisan,' which galvanized national unity and self-respect. Dhami described Shastri as a paragon of simplicity and integrity, whose ideals would continue to inspire future generations.

Gandhi Jayanti marks the birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, celebrated nationwide as a national holiday. Born on October 2, 1869, in Gujarat, Gandhi led the freedom struggle through non-violent resistance, helping India achieve independence in 1947.

Lal Bahadur Shastri, born in 1904 in Uttar Pradesh, served as India's second Prime Minister from 1964 to 1966. He passed away in Tashkent in 1966 after signing a peace agreement with Pakistan. Shastri is revered as a visionary who propelled India's progress and was deeply influenced by Gandhi's teachings.
