On Tuesday, Governor P.S. Sreedharan Pillai extended warm greetings to the public on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. In his message, he stated that the day is celebrated annually to honor the 'Father of the Nation' and his enduring values, principles, and philosophy. He noted, "The 2nd of October is also internationally observed as the 'International Day of Non-Violence' due to Gandhi's life-long advocacy for non-violence. We remember Gandhiji as Bapu, a symbol of peace, non-violence, and truth."
Governor Pillai also reflected on Mahatma Gandhi's significant contributions to India's freedom struggle. "Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, also known as Mahatma Gandhi, was a distinguished freedom activist and a pivotal political leader. He was instrumental in India's fight for independence from British rule, envisioning a society grounded in non-violence and integrity," said Pillai.
He further highlighted Gandhi's influence on international leaders and movements. "Gandhi's use of truth and non-violence as tools for freedom has inspired countless leaders around the world. Activities like spinning and weaving were transformed into ideologies of self-reliance and self-governance," he noted. The Governor also emphasized the importance of observing 'Swachh Bharat Diwas' on October 2nd as a tribute to Gandhi. He concluded, "Mahatma Gandhi's life and principles have inspired generations. Let us all adhere to the values he espoused."
