Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections: Final Phase Records 56% Turnout
As the final phase of Jammu and Kashmir's Assembly elections wraps up, a voter turnout of 56.01% has been recorded. Elections across 40 constituencies saw tight security and noteworthy participation, marking the first polls since the abrogation of Article 370.

In the third and final phase of ongoing Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, a voter turnout of 56.01 percent was recorded till 3 pm, according to the Election Commission of India (ECI). District-wise, Bandipora noted 53.09%, Baramulla 46.09%, Jammu 56.74%, Kathua 62.43%, Kupwara 52.98%, Samba 63.24%, and Udhampur 64.43% turnout.
Polling began at 7 am on Tuesday across 40 constituencies in seven districts. Elections are being conducted in 24 constituencies in the Jammu division and 16 in the Kashmir division, with strong security deployments ensuring smooth and peaceful voting.
Earlier phases saw voter turnouts of 61.13% and 57.31%. In this phase, 415 candidates, including high-profile figures like former deputy Chief Ministers Tara Chand and Muzaffar Hussain Beig, are in the fray. This multi-party contest involves 90 seats across the Union Territory, marking the first elections since the abrogation of Article 370.
Campaigning efforts were extensive, with key figures such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and opposition leaders like Rahul Gandhi participating. The National Conference and Congress have formed an alliance, while PDP and BJP are also major contenders. Vote counting is scheduled for October 8.
