Central Railway Achieves Sharp Decline in Train Derailments

According to Central Railway, the average number of train derailments has decreased to 0.24 per day in 2023-24, a significant drop from 1.2 per day between 2004 and 2014. A total of approximately 445 derailments occurred annually from 2004 to 2014, with 171 on the main line and 274 in the yards.

By 2023-24, this figure had reduced to 89, consisting of 40 derailments on the main line and 49 in the yards. Furthermore, 43 derailments were recorded in 2024 so far, with 20 on the main line and 23 in various yards, maintaining an average of 0.24 per day, Central Railway's press release stated.

Sustained efforts and infrastructure upgrades have driven this reduction in derailments, although targeted attacks on Indian Railways by various entities continue. Central Railway highlighted the commitment of its 12 lakh strong workforce and associated members in striving towards the zero derailment target, despite these challenges. (ANI)
