Internet services across major Pakistani cities, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Karachi, have been suspended ahead of planned protests by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the party of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The closure coincides with PTI's protest at D-Chowk in Islamabad, highlighting dissatisfaction with the nation's worsening law and order situation.

The demonstrations are a response to constitutional amendments proposed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's government. PTI is also focusing on concerns over judicial independence, and aims to mobilize public pressure for the release of Khan, who remains imprisoned on multiple charges. Lahore's D-Chowk, a symbol of protest in Pakistan, has been a previous protest site for Khan, notably during a 126-day sit-in in 2014.

In anticipation of the protests, the Punjab province has imposed Section 144 to prohibit political gatherings, valid from October 4 to October 6 in key cities like Lahore, Attock, and Sargodha. Rangers have been called to assist in maintaining order, while special police teams have been formed to arrest demonstrators. Government sources confirm police teams will operate under police superintendents, each led by a sub-inspector, to manage protest-related disruptions.
