The Indian Army has successfully organized its first High Altitude Marathon in the Spiti District of Himachal Pradesh. The event, held over two days on September 28-29, drew in over 640 participants from across the nation, showcasing a strong spirit of competition and communal unity.

As part of Operation Sadbhavana, the marathon took place in Sumdo, Spiti, featuring four distinct categories. Notable winners included Jigmet Namgyal of Ladakh Police, who seized the 77 km Spiti Avengers Challenge male title, and Tenzin Dolma, who emerged champion in the female category. In the 40+ age group, Honrary Captain (Retd) Suresh of the Indian Army clinched first place. The 42 km full marathon titles were claimed by Naik Het Ram and Disket Dolma in the men's and women's categories respectively.

In further categories, Testan Namgyal of the Indian Army took first place in the men's half marathon, while Tashi Ladol led the women's segment. Naib Subedar Shyam Singh and Rakhee Rai were victorious in the veteran categories. Sonam Stanzin and Sonam Zangpo won the 10 km races for men and women respectively. Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta, GOC-in-C Surya Command, congratulated the winners and participants, lauding their resilience and spirit.

The Spiti Marathon aims to spotlight the Indian Army's initiatives in remote Himachal Pradesh, promote local culture, and boost tourism. The event supported the Government of India's Vibrant Village Programme and emphasized physical fitness, mental toughness, and stronger connections with local communities.
