India's Oil Imports from Russia Drop While China's Rise
In August, India's oil imports from Russia fell by 18.3% to 1.7 million barrels per day due to reduced crude processing by refiners. China's imports from Russia increased, making it Moscow's top oil client again. Despite the dip, Russia remained India's top supplier, followed by Iraq and Saudi Arabia.
India's oil imports from Russia saw a significant decline of 18.3% in August, dropping to 1.7 million barrels per day (bpd) due to decreased crude processing by some refiners. This data, sourced from trade specialists, highlights a shift in purchase patterns.
Meanwhile, China has increased its intake of Russian oil, reclaiming its status as Moscow's top client after India took the lead in July. Russian oil's share in India's imports fell to 36% in August from 44% in July.
Despite the downturn, Russia remained India's primary oil supplier, with Iraq and Saudi Arabia coming second and third respectively. Overall, India's oil imports totaled 4.7 million bpd in August, slightly lower than in July.
