In a poignant demonstration, artists gathered in Kolkata on Saturday to protest the horrific rape and murder of a trainee woman doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The protest took the form of a painting exhibition dedicated to the victim, underlining a collective demand for justice.

Speaking to ANI, one of the participating artists emphasized that the exhibition aims to ensure that the perpetrators face stringent punishment, which would serve as a deterrent against future crimes. The call for justice has resonated deeply within the artistic community, spurring them to use their work as a platform for advocacy.

Adding to the day's fervor, the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) also organized a rally demanding justice for the victim. CITU president Subhash Mukherjee stated their united demand for punishment for the accused. Meanwhile, the incident has sparked a political uproar, with the BJP demanding Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's resignation.

In related developments, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been probing financial irregularities involving RG Kar Medical College and Hospital officials. On September 2, Sandip Ghosh was arrested over allegations of corruption, and a CBI court has since remanded him and three others to judicial custody. This follows a directive from the Calcutta High Court, which ordered the CBI investigation.

The broader investigations have also seen the CBI conduct polygraph tests on Dr. Ghosh as part of their efforts to uncover the truth behind the trainee doctor's brutal murder on August 9.
