In an unexpected turn of events, the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) meeting on the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 was postponed. This delay is attributed to the concurrent celebrations of Ganesh Chaturthi and the Eid-e-Milad procession in Maharashtra, according to JPC Chairman and BJP MP Jagdambika Pal, who spoke on Wednesday.
Addressing the media, Pal clarified that though today's meeting was deferred, the sessions scheduled for September 19 and 20 will proceed as planned. Originally, the committee had meetings set for September 18, 19, and 20 at Parliament House Annexe in New Delhi.
During the rescheduled meetings, the committee will hear oral evidence from representatives of the Ministry of Minority Affairs. Additionally, experts and stakeholders, including Prof Faizan Mustafa, Vice Chancellor of Chanakya National Law University, and organizations like the Pasmanda Muslim Mahaaz and All India Muslim Personal Law Board, will present their insights and suggestions on the bill.
