West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday announced her willingness to resign from her post amid ongoing protests by junior doctors in Kolkata over the RG Kar rape-murder incident. In response, BJP's Roopa Ganguly called for her to resign the next day, suggesting, "Let us start tomorrow's day with good news" and urging Banerjee to step down from her additional role as Health Minister.

At the same time, BJP leader Dilip Ghosh commented on the rape and murder case at RG Kar Hospital and College, alleging that judges are being intimidated. Ghosh stated, "Judges are being intimidated in Diamond Harbour. They're being threatened at their homes. Earlier, Trinamool tried to intimidate teachers and doctors too, but couldn't stop them."

During a press conference, CM Mamata Banerjee reiterated her readiness to resign, emphasizing her concern for justice for the RG Kar rape-murder victim and the necessity of treatment for ordinary citizens. Banerjee said, "I am ready to resign from the Chief Minister of West Bengal. I am not concerned about the post. I want justice for the victim; I am only concerned about ordinary people getting medical service." She assured no action would be taken against the protesting doctors and apologized for the impasse, urging support for justice for both the victim and the medical needs of the public.
