17th Arrest Made in Rs 9 crore Jaipur Airport Gold Smuggling Case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has apprehended the 17th suspect in the 2020 gold smuggling case at Jaipur International Airport. Muniyad Ali Khan, who had been absconding, was arrested after Interpol alerted immigration officials. NIA investigations suggest a wider conspiracy involving other co-accused.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday arrested the 17th individual implicated in the gold smuggling case involving the seizure of gold bars worth over Rs 9 crore at Jaipur International Airport in 2020. Muniyad Ali Khan, who had been absconding and had an outstanding warrant issued by the NIA Special Court in Jaipur, was apprehended at Jaipur International Airport following an alert from Interpol.

A Red Corner Notice was also in effect against Muniyad, who had been chargesheeted by NIA in March 2021 along with 17 others. Investigations revealed Muniyad conspired with co-accused Sameer Khan, Aizaz Khan, Surendra Kumar Darji, and Mohammad Arif to smuggle gold bars and biscuits from Saudi Arabia into India.

NIA disclosed that Muniyad had concealed the gold bars in emergency lights packed in the check-in baggage of the co-accused. On July 3, 2020, Customs officials at Jaipur International Airport seized gold bars weighing 18,569.39 grams, valued at Rs 92,382,724. The NIA, which took over the case on September 22, 2020, continues its investigation. (ANI)
