Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday participated in the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the new Bar Association building in Dehradun. CM Dhami also performed the Bhoomi Pujan rite at the judicial complex.

Highlighting the occasion, CM Dhami congratulated all advocates on this landmark event, emphasizing that the day holds historical significance. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership for the consistent efforts towards strengthening judicial infrastructure nationwide, including in Uttarakhand. Over the past decade, the Modi administration has allocated more than Rs 8,000 crore for judicial improvements, Dhami noted. He also mentioned that the Central Government has replaced outdated British-era laws with contemporary legislations, thus bolstering justice. The new laws now recognize electronic and digital records as legitimate evidence, aiding advocates in court proceedings.

CM Dhami reaffirmed the state government's commitment to enhancing judicial infrastructure. He acknowledged the long-standing demand for a new chamber building from the Dehradun Bar Association and stated that five bighas of land have been allocated for this purpose. He expressed his satisfaction that the new nine-story building, complete with 1,500 chambers, an auditorium, a library, a canteen, and parking facilities, will soon become a reality. He assured full government support for its construction. Additionally, Dhami highlighted the state government's new laws, including the anti-copying, conversion, and anti-riot laws, which have positioned Uttarakhand as a disciplined state with zero tolerance towards crime. He announced that the Uniform Civil Code will be implemented in the state by November 9, 2024.
