A designated court in Ahmedabad has sentenced Kishore Marotirao Ambavale, the former Superintendent of Central Excise, to three years of rigorous imprisonment. Ambavale was also fined Rs 1 lakh for accepting a bribe of Rs 14,500.
The Special Judge for CBI cases passed the sentence in a case that dates back to February 15, 2013, when the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered a case against Ambavale. The accused had demanded the bribe from a complainant as a reward for processing monthly returns and export documents submitted by a private company.
Ambavale was arrested on February 16, 2013, after accepting the illicit payment. Subsequent raids were conducted at his residential and official premises. Following a thorough investigation, the CBI filed a chargesheet on September 30, 2013. The Court found Ambavale guilty after a trial and handed down the sentence. (ANI)
