In a shocking turn of events, the Hyderabad Excise Department has shut down an ice cream parlour found selling whiskey-laced ice cream and arrested several persons involved in the scheme, police confirmed on Friday. The illegal activities were uncovered when officials raided Ariko Cafe Ice Cream Parlour, located on roads 1 and 5 in Jubilee Hills.

During the raid, authorities seized 23 pieces of whiskey ice cream, weighing a total of 11.5 kg, and registered cases against the suspects. The parlour was being operated by Sharath Chandra Reddy, who was adding 60 ml of whiskey to each kilogram of ice cream and selling it at inflated prices.

Other suspects, identified as Dayakar Reddy and Shobhan, were promoting their illicit product via Facebook to attract more customers. The investigation is ongoing.

In a separate incident, the Excise Department intercepted non-duty-paid liquor valued at Rs 3.85 lakh at RTC Cross Roads on Thursday. The accused, Gopal Agrawal, a resident of Attapur, had transported the liquor from Chandigarh, intending to sell it in Hyderabad at a significant markup.

"The accused purchased the liquor for Rs 1.32 lakh in Chandigarh and aimed to resell it in Hyderabad for Rs 4 lakh, hoping to profit from the price difference," the Excise Department revealed in a press statement. (ANI)
