The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against Anil Vasantrao Deshmukh, former Home Minister of Maharashtra, and four others, including senior police officers, for allegedly framing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in false cases.

The FIR names Pravin Pandit Chavan, the then Special Public Prosecutor for Maharashtra, Vijay Bhaskarrao Patil, Poornima Gaikwad, the then DCP, Sushma Chavan, ACP, Anil Vasantrao Deshmukh, and other unidentified public servants and individuals.

The CBI enquiry was based on evidence provided by Devendra Fadnavis, then opposition leader, featuring audio and video recordings. Initial findings revealed a conspiracy to file a zero FIR based on a 2018 incident to wrongfully implicate BJP leaders and seize control of an educational institution. The accused officers allegedly fabricated statements and evidence.
