In a pivotal move, Odisha's Director General of Police (DGP) YB Khurania revealed that anti-naxal operations have been intensified, with a goal to eradicate the problem by March 2026. Following a crucial meeting with senior police officers in Bhubaneswar, the DGP expressed optimism about the plan's execution.

Speaking to ANI, Khurania stated, 'Today, I had a meeting with the District Superintendent of Police (SP) of all the naxal-affected districts. We reviewed the ongoing operations and explored ways to expedite them. By March 2026, we aim to resolve the issue of left-wing extremists. I also listened to their requirements and discussed how state police can support them.'

The intensified operations come in the wake of nine Naxals being killed during an encounter on the Dantewada-Bijapur border in Chhattisgarh. Concerned about potential infiltration into Odisha, the state police have beefed up security, especially around Nuapada district. The borders of Malkangiri, Koraput, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Bargarh, Sundergarh, and Nabarangpur are now sealed. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai hailed the bravery of soldiers involved in the recent operations.
