Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Monday that his government will create 50,000 additional jobs by May 2025, following through on his prior commitment of providing 1 lakh government jobs. "In the last three years, we have provided 1 lakh government jobs as I promised to the people of Assam during the 2021 assembly elections. By May 2025, we will create 50,000 more jobs, bringing the total to 2 lakh. Each of these jobs has been delivered without a single instance of corruption," said CM Sarma.

On Monday, the Assam Chief Minister officiated a ceremonial event at Veterinary College Field, Guwahati, where 23,956 contractual and state pool teachers were awarded permanent appointment letters under the Department of School Education, Government of Assam. This action elevates the total number of jobs created during the current administration's tenure to 1,24,345, surpassing the initial target. All appointments have been made through a transparent, merit-based process.

Extending his congratulations to the new appointees, CM Sarma expressed hope that they would continue to drive positive change in Assam's educational sector. "Assam has achieved another milestone. In 2021, we came to power promising 1 lakh government jobs. Today, with the handover of 23,956 appointment letters, Assam has offered 1,24,345 jobs to date. With this, we have fulfilled a longstanding demand of our teachers," he stated.

The Chief Minister also announced the appointment of 6,000 headmasters in the upcoming state cabinet meeting in Lakhimpur on September 4. Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu noted that this marks a significant step initiated by CM Sarma since 2012 to appoint TET-qualified contractual teachers, culminating in the regularisation of 23,659 teachers. Minister Pegu extended his gratitude to the Chief Minister for his significant role in the recruitment process and to the Samagra Shiksha Assam's SSA and Statepool contractual teachers for their cooperation.
