Government Unveils Ambitious Rs 14,000 Crore Plan for Agric Growth
The Centre announced seven comprehensive programmes for agriculture and allied sectors, with an outlay of Rs 14,000 crore. Approved by the Union Cabinet led by PM Narendra Modi, the initiatives aim to boost farmers' income through digital agriculture, crop science, livestock health, and natural resource management.

The Centre on Monday announced seven major programmes aimed at the holistic development of the agriculture and allied sectors, with a total financial commitment of nearly Rs 14,000 crore. The initiative, approved by the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is primarily focused on increasing farmers' income.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw detailed the extensive programmes, which include a Rs 2,817-crore digital agriculture mission and a Rs 3,979-crore crop science scheme. These initiatives will tackle areas such as research and education, climate resilience, natural resource management, and increased digitisation in agriculture, alongside the growth of horticulture and livestock sectors.
The government has allocated Rs 2,291 crore towards strengthening agricultural education, management, and social sciences, aligning with the New Education Policy 2020. The focus will be on modernising agri-research using advanced technologies like Digital DPI, AI, and big data. Additional schemes with significant outlays have been approved for sustainable livestock health, horticulture development, Krishi Vigyan Kendra strengthening, and sustainable natural resource management. The comprehensive plan underscores the government's commitment to transforming the agricultural landscape.
