Centre's Fiscal Deficit at 17.2% of Yearly Target in First Four Months of FY25

The Centre's fiscal deficit has reached 17.2% of the full-year target after the first four months of the current fiscal, according to government data revealed on Friday.
In absolute terms, the deficit amounted to Rs 2,76,945 crore as of the end of July, a significant decrease compared to 33.9% of the Budget Estimates for the same period in 2023-24.
The government's goal in the Union Budget is to reduce the fiscal deficit to 4.9% of GDP by the end of fiscal year 2024-25, down from 2023-24's 5.6%.
