Reliance Industries Ltd, India's most valuable company, is set to commission its first solar giga-factory by the end of this year, as part of a broader shift towards green energy. Chairman Mukesh Ambani made the announcement on Thursday, underlining the company's commitment to sustainable energy.

The solar giga-factory will be a comprehensive facility, producing PV modules, cells, wafers, ingots, polysilicon, and glass, all at a single location. These modules are critical for converting sunlight into electricity, marking a significant step in the company's green energy ambitions.

Speaking at the annual shareholders meeting, Ambani confirmed that the first phase of 20GW solar PV manufacturing would begin production by year-end. The company also aims to industrialize sodium-ion cell production at the MW level by 2025 and commence a 50 MWh/year lithium battery cell pilot by 2026. Earlier, in 2021, Reliance announced a USD 10 billion investment plan over three years to establish a new fuels business driven by 100 GW of renewable capacity by 2030.
