The Jammu Zone Police has launched a 24x7 helpline number, '8899334482,' at the PCR Jammu to counter objectionable messages circulating on social media ahead of the Assembly polls. This initiative is in line with the Election Commission's orders to curb election law violations and enforce the Model Code of Conduct.

Citizens receiving objectionable messages that may disrupt regional law and order are urged to forward them, along with sender details, to the helpline. Once complaints are received, the J&K Police of Jammu Zone will swiftly investigate to trace original senders, enforcing legal actions as per Election Commission guidelines.

The initiative aims to limit misinformation and uphold electoral integrity. The J&K Police Jammu Zone appeals to citizens for timely reporting of suspect messages. Concurrently, the National Conference will contest 51 of 90 seats and Congress 32, with friendly contests on five seats. The BJP has also released its candidate list.

Candidate lists have been announced by major parties, including the National Conference and Congress. The BJP has named 16 candidates in their first list. Elections in Jammu and Kashmir will occur in three phases: September 18, 25, and October 1, with counting on October 4. Voting will cover 90 constituencies, totaling 88.06 lakh electors.
