The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an alert on Sunday, forecasting heavy rainfall in Odisha for the next three days. The prediction is due to a trough extending from South Uttar Pradesh to the Bay of Bengal. Bhubaneswar IMD Director Manorama Mohanty informed ANI about the likely impacts.

IMD predicts light to moderate rainfall across most parts of Odisha in the next 24 hours. In the past day, six regions experienced very heavy rainfall, with Bamra in Sambalpur recording the highest at 167.8 mm. Other areas saw light-to-moderate rainfall, according to Mohanty.

An orange warning has been issued for northeastern districts in Odisha, including Mayurbhanj, Kendujhar, Dhenkanal, Angul, Jajapur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur. The IMD also anticipated heavy rainfall across the state until August 27.

Additionally, fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected over East and Northeast India during the week. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over several regions, including the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Tripura.
