The Border Security Force (BSF) successfully foiled a gold smuggling attempt and arrested a smuggler with eight gold biscuits, weighing 974 grams and valued at over Rs 71 lakh. The incident occurred at the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal on August 23rd.

The individual, identified as Tanmoy Mondal from North 24 Parganas district, was apprehended by vigilant BSF troops based on specific intelligence. The operation took place near the Border Outpost Tarali-1, under the South Bengal Frontier. The smuggler was intercepted while riding a scooty and carrying the gold biscuits, estimated to be worth Rs 71,16,044.

According to a BSF press release, Mondal received the gold biscuits from an unknown Bangladeshi national on the night of August 22nd. He concealed the gold in a cavity within his scooty and attempted to cross the BSF domination line the next day. He aimed to deliver the gold to another smuggler at Bithari market for a payment of Rs 4,000.

The BSF handed over the apprehended person and seized gold to the customs office in Tentulia for further action.
