Pakistan's central bank is set to introduce polymer plastic currency banknotes later this year as part of a comprehensive plan to enhance security features and combat counterfeiting.
In a Senate committee briefing, State Bank of Pakistan Governor Jameel Ahmed announced that all existing paper currency notes would be redesigned with new security technologies, including holograms, by December.
The governor confirmed that Rs 10, 50, 100, 500, 1000, and 5000 denominations would be updated, while a trial issue of polymer notes is planned to test public reception. The move reflects global trends, as over 40 countries currently utilize polymer currency for its anti-counterfeit advantages.
