The Delhi High Court on Friday issued a notice concerning a plea by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) challenging the interim bail granted to Ved Pal Singh Tanwar, who was arrested in a money laundering case. Tanwar received 56 days of interim bail on medical grounds from the Saket District Court on August 16.
Justice Neena Bansal Krishna issued the notice on ED's plea, scheduling the matter for a hearing in September. Haryana-based businessman Tanwar was detained by ED in May under the Prevention of Money-laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, for illegal mining in the Dadam area.
The bail petition cited medical reasons, with Tanwar requiring surgery for an umbilical hernia and various other health issues. Despite opposition from ED's special counsel Advocate Zoheb Hossain and Special Public Prosecutor Simon Benjamin, the court ruled in favor of interim bail due to the critical nature of his illnesses.
