The Central Bureau of Investigation on Thursday sought permission from the Kolkata High Court to conduct a polygraph test on Dr. Sandip Ghosh, ex-principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, along with four other doctors. The request follows discrepancies found in their statements during the investigation.

A senior CBI official stated that once court permission is granted, the polygraph tests will be conducted to corroborate the doctors' statements. These tests aim to verify the accuracy of their testimonies provided during the investigation.

Dr. Ghosh had previously been questioned regarding his actions during the incident, notification to police and parents, and other relevant aspects. Concurrently, doctors at AIIMS, Delhi, ended their 11-day strike following the Supreme Court's appeal and returned to work as of Thursday.

The Resident Doctors Association lifted the strike in response to the Supreme Court's directive. "In the interest of the nation and public service, we have decided to end our 11-day strike," the RDA stated, appreciating the Supreme Court's intervention in the RG Kar Medical College incident and broader healthcare worker safety.

Nationwide protests had erupted after the rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College. The Supreme Court addressed the matter, urging health professionals to return to work while promising no adverse actions against them. The apex court has also instructed the CBI and West Bengal government to file status reports on the investigation and subsequent mob attack on the hospital.

On August 9, a postgraduate trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered while on duty, igniting strikes and protests across the medical community in India.
