The junior doctors in West Bengal, who have been on a 20-day strike in response to the alleged rape and murder of a fellow medic, rejected Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's request to resume work on Wednesday. They vowed to continue their protest until their demands are met.
The demands include justice for the deceased postgraduate trainee from RG Kar hospital, the suspension of Dr. Sandip Ghosh from health services, and action against the Kolkata police commissioner. The doctors' forum also staged a rally in Shyambazar, intensifying their call for reforms.
Chief Minister Banerjee, speaking at a rally by the Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad, expressed support for the doctors' cause. She urged them to return to work, highlighting patient suffering. The protest aligns with a 12-hour bandh by the BJP against police action during an unregistered student organization's demonstration.
