GST Council to Convene for Key Rate Rationalisation Discussions

The Group of Ministers (GoM) on GST rate rationalisation is set to meet on Thursday ahead of the GST Council meeting on September 9, officials said. This gathering marks the first meeting of this high-profile GoM, which includes ministers from seven states, with Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary serving as convenor.
Additional members of the GoM are West Bengal Finance Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya, Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, Kerala Finance Minister K N Balagopal, Uttar Pradesh Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna, Goa Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho, and Rajasthan Medical and Health Services Minister Gajendra Singh.
'The GoM will meet today to review progress and outline the future course of action,' an official confirmed. The GST Council's forthcoming meeting will focus on continuing efforts toward rate rationalisation, which seeks to correct inverted duty structures and restructure tax rates to boost revenue and simplify compliance.
