BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla lambasted farmer leader Rakesh Tikait for his controversial remarks on the recent RG Kar Medical College rape-murder case, calling them 'the most shameful statement.' Tikait alleged that the incident is part of a broader conspiracy to discredit the West Bengal government led by Mamata Banerjee.
Poonawalla remarked that Tikait's statement follows similar comments by Rahul Gandhi, who termed the incident a distraction and a conspiracy against the state government. 'Is the Supreme Court's intervention also propaganda?' Poonawalla queried, noting the court's criticism of an alleged institutional cover-up and its decision to transfer the investigation to the CBI.
The BJP spokesperson criticized the West Bengal government for its 'dictatorial attitude' and suppression of voices demanding justice. Poonawalla pointed out that despite multiple rape cases and attacks on medical staff in the state, leaders of the INDI alliance remain silent, defending the government by labeling the crisis as a conspiracy. The Supreme Court has formed a 10-member task force to address the violence against medical professionals and ordered reports on the investigation from the CBI and the state government.
