A team from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) arrived at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on Wednesday following the rape and murder of a trainee doctor. This visit coincides with the establishment of a Supreme Court-appointed National Task Force to recommend measures for preventing violence and ensuring safe working conditions for medical professionals.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) CISF, K Pratap Singh, confirmed their presence at the hospital for specific assignments. 'Let us do our job. We have come here for some assignments. I am doing my job, which has been mandated by the higher authorities,' he stated.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday formed a 10-member National Task Force, including Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, to propose recommendations on violence prevention and securing safe working environments for medical staff. Following the tragic incident in Kolkata, which triggered nationwide protests, the court asked the task force to submit an interim report within three weeks and a final report within two months.

The court ordered the Task Force to develop an action plan to prevent gender-based violence and ensure a dignified workspace for various medical personnel. Additionally, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been directed to provide a status report on the ongoing investigation into the rape case. The West Bengal government has also been asked to report on the mob attack at RG Kar hospital on August 15.

On August 9, a postgraduate trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered while on duty at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, inciting nationwide strikes and protests by the medical community. The protest site and hospital campus were vandalized by a mob on August 14, prompting security forces to intervene. (ANI)
