Congress workers in West Bengal's Siliguri on Tuesday staged a candle march protesting the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. Protesters carried posters demanding justice for rape victims, with significant participation from young people in the Tuesday evening event.

Earlier, doctors in Hyderabad organized a candle march and street play to voice their demands. A protestor stated to ANI that although the CBI is investigating, they face substantial resistance from the state government, yet remain hopeful about the probe.

In another demonstration, doctors in Shimla marched towards the Himachal Pradesh Secretariat, seeking justice for the slain trainee doctor from Kolkata. The top court has ordered all social and electronic media to immediately remove any content revealing the victim's identity.

A bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, including Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, noted that the victim's identity had been disclosed on several platforms. The court was compelled to issue an injunction against the publication of such details. Additionally, the court formed a 10-member National Task Force to recommend measures for preventing violence and ensuring safe working conditions for medical professionals.

The trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9. (ANI)
