West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose expressed relief on Tuesday following the Supreme Court's hearing on the Kolkata doctor-rape and murder case. In a video statement, Governor Bose not only took a dig at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee but also echoed an old adage, indicating a call for accountability.
He further challenged Banerjee in his speech, which came as the Supreme Court criticized the Bengal government for delays in filing an FIR. Earlier that day, Governor Bose had inaugurated a mobile control room to address the ongoing agitation related to the alleged rape and murder of a trainee woman doctor from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
The Raj Bhavan in Kolkata shared contact numbers for the public to relay concerns directly to the Governor. Bose personally reached out to the victim's father to assure his support. Concurrently, the Supreme Court established a 10-member National Task Force to recommend measures for protecting medical professionals from violence, with an interim report due in three weeks. The governor also plans to discuss the situation with Home Minister Amit Shah.
