Mangaluru City Police have registered a case of assault and kidnapping involving two groups of students following a football match at Nehru Maidan on August 14, 2024, according to Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal. The conflict erupted during a match between the Yenepoya and Aloysius football teams, resulting in Yenepoya's victory.

On August 19, near Pandeshwar Forum Mall, the accused allegedly forced the victims into a car and assaulted them. The victims were identified as students from Yenepoya College and Matha Institution. The attack continued at multiple locations, including Mahakali Paddu and Jappu Mahakali Paddu Masjid, and was filmed before the victims were released. The accused have been identified as Diyaan, Taslim, Salman, and two other minors, with Diyaan and one minor identified as students of St. Aloysius College and Matha Institution.

The victims were treated at Wenlock Hospital and are reportedly in stable condition. Police have registered a case under various sections of the BNS, 2023, based on a complaint from a student of Yenepoya College. Commissioner Agrawal confirmed that two suspects, Diyaan and Salman, have been secured, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining accused.
