The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has classified Rs 76,293 crore in dues as 'difficult to recover' by the end of March 2024, representing a 4% rise compared to the preceding year, the market regulator disclosed.

A significant portion of these dues stems from cases pending before court-appointed committees. Despite the administrative categorization of these dues, SEBI stressed that recovery efforts would continue when conditions permit.

The report for 2023-24 noted 807 cases identified as difficult to recover, up from 692 cases the prior year, with ongoing court proceedings involving substantial amounts. SEBI has been publishing data on difficult-to-recover cases since 2021-22 to increase transparency in its enforcement actions.
