Delhi-based women refugees from Pakistan celebrated Raksha Bandhan by tying Rakhi to Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal in a heartwarming ceremony, according to a statement released Monday. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry noted that Minister Goyal also celebrated the festival with Sadhvi Rithambara and Brahmakumari sisters.

Addressing the occasion, Goyal emphasized the importance of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in ensuring safety and respect for migrants granted citizenship. 'The Citizenship (Amendment) Act has provided respect and safety that is your right,' he declared, praising the celebration as one of the best Raksha Bandhan events of his life.

Goyal attributed the successful granting of Indian citizenship under CAA to the strong will of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 'Today, on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, I had the honor of receiving Rakhi from my sisters. I am very happy that, thanks to PM Modi's strong will, all these sisters have been able to get Indian citizenship,' the Minister posted on X.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked Raksha Bandhan by having school girls tie rakhis on his wrist in the national capital. He extended his wishes for happiness and prosperity to everyone on the occasion. 'Best wishes to all countrymen on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, a festival symbolizing the immense love between brother and sister. May this holy festival bring new sweetness in the relationships of all of you and happiness, prosperity, and good fortune in life,' PM Modi posted on X. President Droupadi Murmu also extended greetings, emphasizing the festival's role in promoting mutual respect and affection among siblings.

In a post on X, President Murmu expressed, 'On the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, I extend my heartfelt greetings and best wishes to all countrymen. This festival, based on the feeling of love and mutual trust between brothers and sisters, instills a sense of affection and respect towards all sisters and daughters.'

She urged citizens to pledge for the safety and respect of women in society. 'I would like that on this festival day, all countrymen take a pledge to ensure the safety and respect of women in our society,' the post read. Raksha Bandhan, a festival deeply rooted in Indian culture, has been celebrated for centuries and is mentioned in Hindu religious texts.
