In a gesture of cross-party respect, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Sunday acknowledged Defence Minister Rajnath Singh as his first choice to release a commemorative 100-rupee coin marking the birth centenary of former Tamil Nadu CM M Karunanidhi. He expressed heartfelt thanks to Singh for gracing the occasion.
At the event, CM Stalin highlighted the support from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while praising the positive relations maintained with Rajnath Singh despite differing political backgrounds. The Defence Minister, in turn, described Karunanidhi as a revered leader, a titan of Indian politics, and an advocate for social justice and culture.
The commemorative coin release ceremony saw attendance from Union MoS L Murugan and other notable leaders and officials. Rajnath Singh honored Karunanidhi's legacy, emphasizing that his lifelong contributions reached far beyond Tamil Nadu, benefiting the entire nation. Singh lauded Karunanidhi's resilience, determination, and connection with the people, noting his impactful five tenures as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
