Haryana Leads in Electricity Reforms Under HERC's Dynamic Leadership

Haryana, following Odisha, has made significant advances in electricity reforms. The Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC), established in 1998, oversees the state's power sector, ensuring consumer protection and efficient service. Chairman Nand Lal Sharma emphasized the importance of forecasting electricity needs and praised HERC's efficiency in processing tariff orders.

In a significant development, Haryana has emerged as a frontrunner in electricity reforms, following closely behind Odisha. The Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC), established on August 16, 1998, operates as an independent regulatory agency overseeing the power sector within the state.

Speaking at HERC's Foundation Day event in Panchkula, Chairman Nand Lal Sharma highlighted the transformation from state-managed electricity boards to separate corporations handling distribution, generation, and transmission. This restructuring has led to targeted investments, enhancing the state's electricity services.

Sharma emphasized the essential role of accurate electricity demand forecasting and underlined the commission's commitment to prioritizing consumers' interests. Notably, HERC has excelled in processing Annual Revenue Requirement (ARR) petitions, issuing tariff orders well within the stipulated deadlines.
