Assamese Non-Feature Films Shine at 70th National Film Awards

Two Assamese non-feature films received special mentions at the 70th National Film Awards, while three feature films from Assam clinched the Rajat Kamal Award. The awards ceremony saw notable wins for Rishab Shetty, Nithya Menen, and the Malayalam film Aattam, among others.

Two Assamese non-feature films, 'Hargila - The Greater Adjutant Stork' directed by Partha Sarathi Mahanta and 'Birubala ''Witch to Padmashri''' directed by Aimee Baruah, received special mentions at the 70th National Film Awards. 'Hargila - The Greater Adjutant Stork,' based on the endangered bird, explores the conservation efforts surrounding the species.

Director Partha Sarathi Mahanta dedicated the special recognition to all involved in the conservation of the Hargila. Meanwhile, 'Birubala ''Witch to Padmashri,''' also garnered attention for its impactful story.

In the feature film category, 'Emuthi Puthi (A Very Fishy Trip),' 'Sikaisal (If Only Trees Could Talk),' and 'Xunyota (Void)',' received the prestigious Rajat Kamal Award. Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma congratulated the winners, praising their contributions to Assamese cinema.

The 70th National Film Awards, announced in the national capital, saw Rishab Shetty and Nithya Menen winning Best Actor awards. The Malayalam film 'Aattam' was named Best Film. 'Brahmastra Part 1' and 'Ponniyin Selvan Part 1' scored multiple awards. Other winners included Sooraj Barjatya for Best Director ('Uunchai') and Anand Ekarshi for Best Screenplay ('Attam').

'Kantara' took home the award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. The jury, chaired by eminent filmmakers and industry experts, announced the winners alongside Ministry of Information and Broadcasting officials.
